How it works

The formatter tokenizes SQL while preserving string literals, then uppercases known keywords (SELECT, FROM, WHERE, JOIN, ORDER BY, etc.) and inserts newlines before each major clause. Strings inside quotes are never altered.

Supported clauses

SELECT, FROM, WHERE, JOIN variants (INNER / LEFT / RIGHT / FULL / CROSS), ON, AND, OR, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, HAVING, LIMIT, OFFSET, UNION, VALUES, INSERT INTO, UPDATE SET, DELETE FROM, CREATE TABLE.

Tips

Minify mode collapses all whitespace to a single line — useful for embedding SQL in application code.
The formatter is dialect-agnostic and works with MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and SQL Server syntax.
Keywords inside string literals (e.g. 'select * from users') are preserved as-is.
